Here at Allen Chapel in Staunton, you have lots of ways to get involved.
- Start by letting us know that you've visited our site. Please take a moment to sign our guestbook and let us hear your thoughts, needs, concerns, and praise. We welcome you!
- Understand more of God's purpose and plan for your life. Church School is held every Sunday at 9:30 a.m., and Bible study begins at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday. (Feel free to check out our Bible study blog right now.) Let's get together and learn from one another. You're invited!
- Help feed the hungry and clothe the naked. The Women's Missionary Society (WMS) administers the food pantry (open every second Thursday of the month from 5 to 6:30 in the evening) and undertakes special projects to serve the needy.
- Sing a new song (and some treasured old ones). Join our Voices of Victory Choir. Practice is every Saturday at 10 a.m.
- Stand up for what you believe in. Ushers make everyone feel welcome for Sunday's worship, distributing the day's order of service, "directing traffic" during the service, and standing at the door to assist anyone who needs it.
- Advance the scholarship and education of our youth. Our Young People's Department (YPD) and Scholarship & Education Committee consider it their priviledge and duty to shepherd our young congregants to value and receive excellent education.

Our Book of Discipline identifies AME Churches' goals. We primarily seek
... to minister to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and environmental needs of all people by spreading Christ's liberating gospel through word and deed.
... [I]n every local church, the African Methodist Episcopal Church shall engage in carrying out the spirit of the original Free African Society, out of which the African Methodist Episcopal Church evolved: that is, to seek out and save the lost, and serve the needy through a continuing program of
- preaching the gospel,
- feeding the hungry,

- cheering the fallen,
- providing jobs for the jobless,
- administering to the needs of those in prisons, hospitals, nursing homes, asylums and mental institutions, senior citizens' homes; caring for the sick, the shut-in, the mentally and socially disturbed, and
- encouraging thrift and economic advancement.

Do you drink cold beverages with your meals? Take a minute to reconsider. Cold water (or other cold drinks) solidify with the oily stuff in whatever you've just consumed, which slows down digestion. Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid in your system, it breaks down and is absorbed faster than the solid food. It then lines the intestine. Soon, this turns into fats and can lead to cancer. Why not drink hot soup or warm water after a meal instead?
